I don’t usually do photographic blog posts but I think this particular trip deserves the distribution of a few of the images. I hope you enjoy them. This weekend I spent some time with some friends in the remote Scottish Highlands and I went for a couple of walks and took a few snaps of what I could see.
It’s pretty easy to get to Scotland for me. I can drive which is an awfully long way, or I can fly which is about an hour and a bit to Inverness where I pick up a rental car. I’d like to pass on a suggestion that it’s always good to have a last minute check of the paperwork the night before you leave. I know of few days that go well if you discovered upon arrival at one airport that your rental car was booked and waiting at another. So lesson learned and no harm done. I made a phone call and the car booking was amended to match my flight arrival at Inverness rather than waiting for me at another airport I wasn’t going to, oh how I laughed, or not.
So off I set and the following is some of the scenery I encountered, just a small selection.

When you get up in the morning you might see this sort of thing with your coffee from the veranda
Scotland also has many Lochs this is Loch Arkaig, It’s pretty still on this particular day.
That little cottage is called a bothy, the Highlands have them dotted about for walkers to stop at
The accommodation for the duration
This is the track you take for about one and a half hours from the main road to get to where I was staying
Weather will move about before your eyes
Look to the South West, there are Eagles up here
Once you’ve finished your break in the wilderness you drive back across the Highlands to the airport of your choice. As I said previously my airport was Inverness. You know you are in a special environment when you see a fleet of a dozen Range Rovers and two Rolls Royces making their way out to a pair of large private jets as you walk to your plane back to ‘civilisation’. I wonder who it was? I fly an hour and a half due south, land at Gatwick and drive about 45 minutes home. Just like that. I like that I can do that.
Go to Scotland and go for a walk, it’s special, it’s the land of my ancestors.

I’ve just changed cameras…so will have a steep learning curve ahead of me.
Thanks Helen, I’m changing Camera’s again soon but as I haven’t the first clue what all the technology does, I get a good quality second hand version a few years newer than the last one I had every few years. Keeps the costs down and doesn’t bamboozle me with science.

I love Scotland! My grandmother was Scottish so I always like to say Welsh first, Scottish second (that said my other Grandmother was Malteese so I’m a bit of a mongrel).

Ach, those Heilans are over-rated and their roads are a bugger to negotiate at this time of year.
Try the Trossachs or Clydesdale (New Lanark!) or the Borders or Dumfries and Galloway… better than all that hill and glen stuff…

Scotland is the best place in the world,and many people in the world will tell everybody this,there is no person in the WORLD…..I tell you…including all the stars……that love it, it is great in more ways in my words than i can describe it ,idiots,good people ,sense of humour and just great people,i personelly love GLASGOW it is BRILLIANT
